Lacquer

To care for lacquered wood, dust regularly with a soft cloth, clean gently with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and mild soap if needed (avoid harsh chemicals), dry immediately, and protect from heat, moisture, heavy items, and chemicals like ammonia or alcohol to prevent damage like hazing or cracking. Use coasters and placemats, and maintain consistent humidity to preserve the finish. Always follow the manufacturer’s label for application and cleanup.

Daily/Weekly Care

  • Dust: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth (like microfiber) to dust regularly.

  • Protect Surfaces: Use coasters, placemats, or table runners under hot items, drinks, and decorative objects to prevent heat rings, scratches, and spills.

  • Humidity: Keep furniture in a stable environment with 45-55% relative humidity to prevent wood from expanding or contracting.

Cleaning

  • Light Cleaning: Wipe with a soft cloth slightly dampened with distilled water and a tiny bit of mild dish soap if needed, then immediately dry with a clean, dry cloth.

  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Never use products with ammonia, alcohol, silicone, or petroleum, as these can damage the lacquer.

  • Spills: Wipe spills immediately to prevent them from dulling or cracking the finish.

What to Avoid

  • Abrasives: Avoid abrasive cloths, sponges, or cleaners.

  • Excess Water: Do not use dripping wet cloths or soak the finish.

  • Plastic: Don't store plastic items directly on lacquer, as they can dent the finish.

  • Furniture Polish: Many polishes contain waxes or silicones that can harm lacquer; buff with a soft cloth instead.
